In the Garage
This noteworthy High School Inc. Academy is helping students gear up for the shortage of skilled auto technicians and other trades in the automotive, transportation and logistics industries. Walking into the Auto Academy, it’s evident that you are not stepping into a classroom, but an actual working automotive shop with more than 8 car bays, lifts, state-of-the-art equipment, tools, automotive diagnostic machines and much more.
Students learn alongside automotive professionals on real cars needing real work like oil changes or engine repairs. The program includes a monthly Saturday Service Clinic where students run every department of an auto service shop from greeting community customers and assessing each vehicle, to arranging delivery of the needed parts and performing auto services.
In addition, the High School Inc. Auto Academy is the first and only program in Orange County, CA to become Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Education Foundation Certified, giving students the opportunity to earn their first entry-level certification through the Automotive Service Excellence Organization in an industry- accredited facility.
Outside of the Garage
To further enrich their experiences and kick things into a higher gear, Academy students are able to drive into industry-sponsored competitions like the Orange County Automotive Dealership Association and Hot Rodders of Tomorrow Engine Competition. Student teams compete to demonstrate troubleshooting, problem-solving, critical thinking and collaboration skills. Participants also have awesome internship opportunities at local companies, such as with Fletcher Jones Mercedes-Benz, South Coast Audi, Land Rover Newport Beach, Tom’s Truck Center and Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA).
